  Staff are friendly, helpful and fun. Most adult visitors are polite and respectful as well. School groups can be overwhelming so avoid the crowd. Mission ground is beautiful and filled with colorful flowers. Loved the lily pound and the rose bushes. Monarch butterflies are all around especially during spring.

  Spiritual place, gorgeous, and peaceful. Well maintained, iconic, historic and hats off for the city officials of San Juan Capistrano for keeping the mission and the immediate environs nice, clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy, sightseeing and meditate. A place people must visit. Totally extraordinary!

  While traveling south on Interstate 5, we saw a sign for this mission and decided to stop in.  The mission is quite large and has a rich history behind it.  On our first visit, we didn't stop in but a few years later, we actually toured the grounds of this huge estate and was impressed.  
  
  From the historic buildings, fountains, and gardens, they were well maintained and plaques told about their origins.  The only drawback on our visit was the crowds that came in droves, like the "swallows" who return every year.  The gift shop which is across the street had some interesting stuff associated with this historic site.

  I rode the train here and enjoyed my visit. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. I took a tour with an online coupon, and my only complaint is that I felt like my tour tried to present a wholly positive side of colonial history and I wish that the perspectives were more varied. The gardens are amazing!

  The place is full of history. Every turn you make, there's something that is ready to tell a story. Rode the train from L.A. and it was the best thing we could have done! Instead of dealing with traffic on a Friday night, I was able to take a nap on the way back. The city is so small that you really don't need a car.
